One more interesting tutorial how to create canvas texture imitation from the photography. Here I’ll show you the method how to simulate the maximum texture of canvas.

Before starting this tutorial you should find the suitable photography to work with. You can try to find it by using Google Images or feel free to use mine. Open up the photography and duplicate layer with Ctrl+J at first. After that desaturate copied layer with Image > Adjustments > Desaturate and set up opacity to 70%.

Merge two of these layers in one and apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise to the new layer.

The result should be next:

After that apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with next presets:

Hope, your result looks the same as mine on the picture below:

Ok, move to the next step. On this step you should stylize the photography a little bit with Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen by using following presets:

See the difference below:

Ok, now create a new layer and fill it with black color. Then Filter > Noise > Add Noise to add the noise a little bit on this layer.

Then mess with the layer mode & opacity/fill. I tried Screen with opacity of 50%.

Now, duplicate noise layer with Ctrl+J and hide the copy (click on the eye, which indicates layer visibility). Go to lower layer and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with next parameters:

Your effect should be the next:

Now, apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen to this layer two times.

After that go back to the hidden copy of layer and make it visible again. Apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with following parameters:

See the difference now?

Ok, now apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen two times for this layer also.

Then adjust brightness and contrast a little bit with Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Use next parameters:

Your picture should look the same as mine:

And the last one thing that we need to do before finishing this tutorial to increase the sharpness with Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen:

On this step we are done. The final picture has nice canvas texture imitation effect isn’t it?

Are you interesting in how to make realistic view scotch tape by using Photoshop tools? If yes, then I will teach you how to make it. I got this effect by experimenting.

So, lets start! First of all create a new document sized 500×300 pixels. Select some appropriate color, for example #a13503 and fill your canvas with it.

Ok, now we should find and bring some picture to our canvas to attach it with scotch tape in future. Actually we can use different pictures or photos. I prefer to use this one, used below. If you want to use the same picture as me, please feel free to download it from here. Open up the picture and copy it to our canvas. After that use Ctrl+T to rotate it a little bit.

Then apply the Drop Shadow and Stroke layer styles to the layer with picture.

See the result on the picture below.

Now, start with creating scotch tape. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to make selection which you can see on the picture below. Fill selected area with color of #c1cccd on the new layer.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D. Now, we need to process the scotch tape borders. Get started by selecting the Eraser Tool and use one of the standard Photoshop brushes.

Make some clean work as shown on my picture below.

Set opacity up to 22% for current layer.

Time to add some defects to bring our scotch tape realistic view. Use the Dodge Tool (Brush: 7px, Range: Highlights, Exposure: 50%) to add a few light lines.

Looks better for now, isn’t it? Than use the Burn Tool (Brush: 30px, Range: Shadows, Exposure: 100%) to make some burn work.

To finish off creating scotch tape effect, duplicate the layer with Ctrl+J and change layer mode to Overlay for copied layer. Don’t be surprised that the layer becomes a bit brighter. It is normal. Then apply Filter > Stylize > Emboss with similar settings to these:

Now we have a relief like this:

On this step we are done with creating scotch tape. You can add more tapes if you want. Feel free to experiment and you will get the best results! Good luck!

In this Photoshop tutorial I would like to show you creative way how to displace the text and get an interesting effect on it.

To start create a new document sized 1000×500 pixels and fill it with color of #f4f4f4.

After that add some dark line to divide the floor from the wall. Get out the Elliptical Marquee Tool and create selection as shown on the picture which you can see below. Then fill this selected area with black to transparent gradient.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these:

The result should look like this:

Move to the next step. Select Horizontal Type Tool to write out the text on the middle of canvas on whish we will demonstrate displaced effect.

In the above image I’ve used Arial Black (250 pt, Crisp) as my font of choice. Then apply Bevel and Emboss and Gradient Overlay layer styles to this layer.

The result should be next:

Create a new one layer above and merge it with text layer to get all the styles in one layer. After that we need to add some shadow under the letters. Create a new one layer under the current and make elliptical selection with Elliptical Marquee Tool. Fill selected area with black color.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and press Ctrl+F to apply the previous filter effect to this layer.

Then apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with next presets:

The result should be next:

Duplicate this layer three of times with Ctrl+J to add the shadow under each letter.

Ok, after that go to the text layer and start creating displace effect. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create selection as you can see on the picture below.

Press Ctrl+Shift+J to cut selected area on the new layer. Use Move Tool to move a new layer a little bit.

Make the same things a few times more.

Looks interesting, isn’t it? To finish off the effect I would like to add a robot that moves the text. The picture of robot you can download from here. Also feel free to use your own pictures. So, open up the picture and copy it to our main canvas with text. Then reduce the picture a little bit.

To finish off the tutorial we should add the shadow under robots’ leg. Create a new one layer under the current. Then use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create selection which you can see on the picture below. After that fill this selection with black color.

Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and blur the shadow with Blur Tool.

Then use the Smudge Tool (Brush: 10px, Mode: Normal: Strength: 33%) to bring the shadow realistic view.

Add the shadow under second leg in the same way.

Ok, we are done for now! We get creative displaced text effect. I am happy with the result, hope you to!

Final Image Preview

This image is inspired from the cover of LAYOUT, dasar & penerapannya, a graphic design book by Surianto Rustan published by Gramedia in Indonesia. Before starting this tutorial, see the result below. Click here to see the image at a higher resolution. The Illustrator and Photoshop files can be found at the bottom of this post. You can also see more of work at my website DesainDigital.com

Step 1: Creating Word in Illustrator

Open up your Illustrator. Create new document (File|New) with Document Profile: Print, size: A4.

Create word LAYOUT using tool type.

Step 2

Select the word. Click Object|Expand. Click OK.

Click Object|Compoundd Path|Release.

Step 3

With tool select arrange every character until align nicely.

With the direct selection tool, move some points within the U to give it more room.

Here’s what i come up with.

Step 4

Select all the characters. Then from the toolbox, click the switch icon to switch the fill and stroke color.

Step 5

Above the L character create a box.

To make sure it aligns perfectly with the L, click Edit|preferences. Make sure you select Snap to Point. This small step will save you lots of time when arranging objects.

Step 6

Create a box behind the Y.

Another box behind O.

Another box behind T.

Step 7: Start Adding Text – L

Activate the type tool. Hover the cursor over the L. You will see a circle around the cursor. Now click to insert some text inside the L shape. I used the famous lorem ipsum text generated from lipsum.

I’m using Helvetica Neue Lt Std here because it’s simply the best font ever and works in every style. For L i use Bold Condensed style. If you dont have this font feel free to use other similar font.

Step 8

Double click the text to select all. From the paragraph panel select alignment justify.

Click on the small arrow to open the panel menu and select Hypenation. Move slider to Better Spacing.

Here’s what i have so far.

Step 9

Paste some more text inside the box above L. Change the style to Light Condensed.

Step 10: Y

Lets move on to the Y now. This one is much more complex and take more time doing it. Paste some text into the box, not the Y shape. Use style Light Condensed.

Select characters inside the Y shape and change its style to bold condensed.

Repeat this process with all the text found within the outline of the Y. As I said before this takes lots of time.

After the required characters have been changed to bold, you can then click the eye icon in front of the Y shape layer to hide it. Here’s what i have so far.

Step 11: O

Select the outer circle of O. Resize it until it is taller than its box.

Step 12

Select the outer circle and box. Open the pathfinder panel and click Exclude. Right click and ungroup.

Step 13

Select top and bottom path then hit delete.

Step 14

Add text to each path. Use align justify for right and left path. Use align center for circle path.

Step 15: U

Select the U shape. Using tool move rotate it 90 degrees.

Step 16

add another load of text. Use style bold condensed.

Step 17

Using the rotate tool, rotate the U shape back to its previous place.

Step 18:T

Add text to T shape.

Step 19

Open the panel character. Double text leading size, in my case from 7,2 to 14.

Step 20

Add text to the box behind the T shape. Use the same text leading like in the previous step.

Step 21

Insert minus leading. Remember step 19? I have text leading 7, so in my case i use -7.

And we’ll have both text overlapping and create a T shape.

Step 23: A

We haven’t worked on A. With the pen, create a shape covering half the A.

Step 24

Insert some text.

Step 25

Using the move tool, rotate the shape until it perfectly aligns horizontally.

Step 26

Using the rotate tool, rotate the shape back to its previous place.

Step 27

Do the same to the other half.

Step 28

Don’t forget to add text to the bridge. After this you can hide A shape.

Finally this is what i have.

Step 29: Export to PDF

Now, we need to import this into Photoshop. First, we need to save it to a format that can preserve its vector quality. I recommend PDF for this.

Click File|Save As. Choose format file PDF. In PDF setting use Press Quality. This setting is used for commercial printing and saves all the details relating to the composition of the image.

Step 30: Import to Photoshop

In Photoshop click File|Open. Choose the PDF file we just created. Use resolution 300 pixel per inch or 300 ppi.

Why we use resolution 300 ppi?

Press Quality setting creates a 300 ppi PDF. So, using resolution 300 ppi, the file is imported at full size, without losing any pixel resolution. This means we still have every detail created from within Illustrator. The picture below shows the imported picture in 100%, white background. As you can see, the text still very sharp.

Step 31

PDF will be imported as a transparent picture.

Step 32: Start Editing in Photoshop

Hit ctrl+A, ctrl+C. Create new file with size A4 with a resolution of 300 ppi. Hit ctrl+V to paste our text here.

Hit ctrl+I to invert text color to white. Click Layer|Convert to Smart Object. Hit ctrl+T. Rotate text.

Step 33

Create new layer under text. Add a radial gradient from black to white.

Step 34

Download grunge textures from deviantart. Paste it behind text.

Use blending mode Multiply with 65% opacity.

Step 35:

Return to our text layer. Click Layer|Layer Style|Drop Shadow. Use setting below.

Use this setting for the Outer Glow.

Conclusion

Yeah, we’re done!. As you can see, all techniques used here is just simple. You can learn it from a basic book on design and typography. What you really need here is just patience and lots of free time. Please share your opinions on the comment form.
Here I’m going to show you a few ways how to create interesting patterns for backgrounds.

Ok, starting by creating a new document, sized 300×300 pixels and fill it with any color, for example black.

After that start with creating your pattern. Select the Custom Shape Tool and select one of standard shapes on Photoshop gallery.

Use white color for creating shape.

Rasterize this shape with Layer > Rasterize > Shape. After that get out the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create selection as on my picture below. You have to select ¼ part of flower, this proportion is important for our future pattern.

Then invert selection with Select > Inverse and press Delete to clear selected area.

Ok, now remove selection with Select > Deselect and select Custom Shape Tool to add one more custom shape, which you can see below:

Add shape to the canvas.

Press Ctrl+T and rotate this shape about 45 degrees and move it a little bit below. Hold the Shift button when rotating the shape to get the exact angle of rotating object.

Merge two of these layers together with Ctrl+E and duplicate new received layer with Ctrl+J. Use Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal to flip new layer horizontal and move it right.

Ok, merge current layer with previous again and duplicate new layer again. Use Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical to flip duplicated layer vertical and move it below. Merge two of these layers together.

Press Ctrl+T to reduce the size of double.

Ok, now we have ready fragment for pattern. After that I will show you two ways of creating pattern, using this fragment.
The first one way. Press Ctrl+A to select all on our canvas and press Ctrl+C to copy selected area. Ok, now use Ctrl+N to create a new document, but before you press Enter, you should add two pixels more to width and height.

Fill created document with color of #003e16 and after that press Ctrl+V to paste copied fragment to this document.

Then mess with the layer mode & opacity/fill. I tried Overlay with opacity of 40%. Then apply Outer Glow layer style to this layer.

You can see the result below:

Apply Edit > Define Pattern to save this picture as pattern and close current document without saving. After that you can create a document of any size and fill it with our pattern using the Paint Bucket Tool.

The second one way. Go back to our main canvas and copy current fragment three more times and arrange it as shown below:

Merge all the layers with fragments in one layer. Then use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create selection as on my picture below. Pay your attention that the boundaries of your selection must be located directly between the centers of flowers.

Press Ctrl+C to copy selected area. Then create a new document and fill it with color of #003e16 again. Press Ctrl+V to paste copied fragment here.

Set up opacity to 40% again and change layer mode to Overlay. After that apply Outer Glow layer style for this layer.

See the result below:

Ok, apply Edit > Define Pattern again to save this picture as pattern and close current document without saving. After that you can create a document of any size and fill it with our pattern using the Paint Bucket Tool. The result should look as mine:

Ok, we are done for this tutorial. Now we have interesting pattern. Feel free to experiment and you will have more and more creative patterns for backgrounds! Good luck in experiments!

In this tutorial you will learn how to create text on fire, also I will explain all the techniques how to transform the text in right format.

First of all you’ll have to start by finding some appropriate picture. I prefer to use this one which you can see below:

Ok, now we need to add the text to the canvas to work with. Get out the Horizontal Type Tool and write out something like ‘Fire’ with any color you want.

In the above image I’ve used AvantGarde as my font of choice. Actually, it is commercial, but if you don’t have it, you can easily find a good alternative. After that I would like to add some layer styles such as Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Satin and Color Overlay for this text layer.

Ok, move to the next step. After that create a new layer above and merge it with text layers to get all the effects in one layer. Then select the Smudge Tool (Brush: 10 px, Mode: Normal, Strength: 79%) and try to make some strokes as on my picture you can see below.

Then apply Filter > Liquify and play a little with different tools to get the result maximum similar to mine:

And the last one thing that we need to do is to put the word into the fire. For this effect select the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush about 20 pixels (Opacity: 40%) and make some clear work to finish off the tutorial.

Looks cool! Thanks for reading everyone! Hope it was really very interesting for you!

When working with PHP object-oriented programming, the concept of creating copies of objects you’ve created can be a little confusing. The main thing you need to understand is that PHP objects are passed byref rather than the standard variable behavior of passing elements byval.

In case you have never heard those terms before, byref means “by reference,” which means that you are essentially assigning an additional name to your original variable. ByVal means “by value,” which means that you are actually copying the variable, creating an entirely new instance of it.

Therefore, when you assign a new variable name to an existing object, as in the following code, you are not actually creating a copy of the object, you are just assigning it an additional name. Any changes made to one will also be made to the other.

$obj = new myClass;
$obj2 = $obj;

Therefore, when you do something like the following:

$obj = new myClass;
$obj->foo = 'test string';
$obj2 = $obj;
$obj2->foo = 'bar';
echo $obj->foo;

will echo
"bar"
rather than echoing
"test string"
.

Cloning Objects

If you want to create an entirely new copy of the original object, you need to use the “clone” function. By default, the “clone” function simply copies all of the properties already associated with the first object over to a completely new instance.

Using the default “clone” function, the following code:

$obj = new myClass;
$obj->foo = 'test string';
$obj->param2 = 'second parameter';
$obj2 = clone $obj;
$obj2->foo = 'bar';
echo $obj->foo;
echo '<br />';
echo $obj->param2;
echo '<br />';
echo $obj2->foo;
echo '<br />';
echo $obj2->param2

will produce the following:

test string
second parameter
bar
second parameter

You can also create your own custom clone function within the class definition. If you want to perform special actions when an object is cloned, you will need to set up the clone function within your class definition.

You can find some good information on cloning objects and creating custom clone functions within the PHP manual.

Here I’m going to show you how to make the website original design where you can put your portfolio.

Firstly, you’ll have to create a new document in which you can make this web site. For this tutorial I’m going to be using a size of 1000×700 pixels with the default resolution (DPI) of 72. Then you need to find the pattern to add on the background. I found this one. Also feel free to use your own patterns. Open up the file and apply Edit > Define Pattern to save this picture as pattern, after that go back to our main document and use Paint Bucket Tool (just use Pattern mode instead of Foreground).

Then press Ctrl+Shift+E to desaturate pattern.

Apply Color Overlay layer style to the background layer.

See the result below:

Ok, we are done with background. Move to the next step. I would like to create the window for content. Create a new layer, then select the Rectangular Marquee Tool to make selection as on my picture below and fill it with color of #f4f4f4.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D. Then I would bring it paper view. Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool make round selection as on my picture below and press Delete to clear selected area.

Hold Shift button and press Right Arrow button two times to move selected area 20 pixels right and press Delete again. Do the same things until u finish white paper area.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and move to the next step. Time to divide worksheet area on three main parts: Web Sites, Logotypes and Icons. Select the Line Tool and line weight about 4 pixels, then draw out the line with black color. After that set up opacity about 15% for this layer.

Add two lines more.

Time to add labels. How we can do this? Let me show you. Create a new layer and create the selection using Rectangular Marquee Tool. Fill selected area with color of #e04e21.

Then select the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create another one selection as was shown on my picture bellow.

Then use the Burn Tool (Brush: 45 px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 30%) to add a dark spots to the selected label area.

Then use the Dodge Tool (Brush: 45 px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 30%) to bring this label volume form.

After that invert the selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and make dodge work a little bit more.

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and press Ctrl+T to rotate the label and then apply Edit > Transform > Warp to transform it a little bit.

Ok, now time to add the shadow to the label. Apply Drop Shadow layer style to current layer style:

Then right-click on the layer thumbnails panel and select Create Layer.

Go to the layer under and apply Edit > Transform > Distort to transform it a little:

Then I would like to add a title. Select the Horizontal Type Tool and write out the name of the label.

I used Bernhard Modern font as my font choice. Now rotate the text a little using Ctrl+T.

First label is ready. Add two more labels in the same way.

Ok, move to the next step. We need to add the content. I went to Google Images and found some picture as website example there. Feel free to download it from here . Open up the picture and crop it with Crop Tool:

Then bring it to our main canvas and reduce a little bit after.

Apply Inner Glow layer style to this layer.

The result should be next:

Now I need to add the name of project with a short description. Select the Horizontal Type Tool again and write out some text in few lines using color of #45454 and Tahoma font.

Add more content in the same way. Logo picture you can download from here and icon picture you can download from here.

Ok, after that move to the next step. I would bring the logo to our portfolio. Select the Horizontal Type Tool gain and write out the text using the color of #b2d763 and Bernhard Modern font again.

After that apply Drop Shadow and Gradient Overlay layer styles to the text layer.

You can see the result on the picture below:

And the last one th9ng that we need to add is contact text on the bottom of website.

I used Tahoma font again and selected text colors as #f4f4f4 and #d5ea9f. Ok, we are dome with creating website for our portfolio. Hope you have the same good result as me!
