Step One


To start off, we create a new canvas with width 250px, height 300px and choose a suitable font - I’m using Garamond. Now, enter some text, I am going to use the letter ‘g’ as it shows off the effect off best!

Step Two


Set the fill opacity of the layer to 0%, then delve into the layer styles (layer — layer styles)

Step Three


First off, we’ll add a color overlay, with the following settings:

Blend Mode: Normal Color: #A3DAF7 Opacity: 100%

The image to the left shows what we have so far.

Step Four


Satin comes next, with these settings:

Blend Mode: Multiply
Color: #9E9E9E
Angle: 19
Distance: 11
Size: 14
Contour: Invert, No anti-aliasing

The contour used for the satin is shown below.

Step Five


Next is the bevel and emboss, with the following settings:

Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Smooth
Depth: 100
Direction: Up
Size: 5
Soften: 7
Angle: 120
Altitude: 30
Highlight Mode: Screen
Highlight Color: White (#FFFFFF)
Highlight Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Shadow Color: #10338B
Shadow Opacity: 50%

Step Six


Now we are going to apply an inner shadow, with these settings:

Blend Mode: Color Dodge
Opacity: 43%
Angle: -45
Distance: 7
Choke: 10
Size: 3
Contour settings shown below.

We now have something like that shown to the left (top).

Step Seven


A drop shadow is next in line, with the following settings:

Blend Mode: Multiply
Opacity: 27%
Angle: 120
Distance 5
Spread: 0
Size: 5
Quality settings shown below left.

You should now have something like that shown to the left.

Step Eight


Now, add a contour style with the settings shown to the left.

Step Nine


And finally, an outer glow, with these settings:

Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 75%
Noise: 0
Color: White
Technique: Softer
Spread: 0
Size: 15
