Step 1

In this tutorial we will create tribal kind of shapes. I wont be explaining how to make one certain thing but we will go trough the technique of how to create them so you can use your own fantasy to create your own shapes. To start out, we will create a new image of 400X400 Pixels with a white background. To start we will make the “main” lines. Create a new layer and call this layer “main”. Now take the elliptical marquee tool and make a selection of about 2 times the size of the image. Hold SHIFT while creating the shape to get a nice round circle. You should have a selection like on the image: What you see on the image is the top of the selected circle.
Step 2

Now select the MAIN layer and fill the circle with black. Now hold SHIFT while pressing the down arrow 2 times and the left arrow 1 time. Press DELETE. Deselect. You should have something like the image.
Step 3

Create a new layer. Make a selection with the elliptical marquee tool, a bit smaller than last time. Now move the circle again and again press delete to clear the rest of the circle. I had something like the image. The smaller the circles get, the less space you have to move the selection untill you delete the “other part” of the circle.
Step 4

Now continue creating lines like this, each one a little bit smaller, I made 4. Try to get something similar to the image.
Step 5

Now its time to add the details. Zoom in on a line you have and create a new layer. Take the elliptical marquee tool again and make a selection as is done in the image, make sure you have it about in the middle of the line.
Step 6

Now fill this on the new made layer and then move the circle up. Delete it on the edges of the line its on, like the image.
Step 7

Do this a couple of times until each line has 2-3 of them. If you want to have a little bit of diversity you can delete one part of the ‘detail’. I came up with this image.
Conclusion

If you want you can select all the layers and give it a gradient or a drop shadow for the effect. This is what I finally got out of it, You can get something like this by just flipping the image around and pasting one side to the other.
